After spending 15 years as a production potter, making functional stoneware, I decided that now, rather than focusing on high production and making pots that are as close to the same as humanly possible, I wanted to get more creative and focus on one-of-a-kind pieces.
I still prefer to make pieces that have a functional purpose because I would like to know that people are using and handling my pottery every day. I design and decorate pieces in a way that I think will look great just setting on the shelf, but being able to actually use them in your everyday life, provides you with the opportunity to experience art while you go about the everyday tasks of eating, drinking and entertaining guests.
If one of my pieces can bring you a moment of joy to an ordinary day, then I've accomplished what I set out to do.
